The KReathon 2023 is just around the corner

Hacking for sustainability: Krefeld's hackathon enters fourth round

In November, it's KReathon again! That means 24 hours of time, exciting challenges and prize money totaling 6,000 euros. This year, six challenges are waiting to be answered by clever minds from Krefeld and the surrounding area with smart applications, technical solutions and digital processes. At Krefeld's fourth major hackathon event, the world is to be made more comfortable and, above all, more sustainable. The event will take place on Friday, November 17, and Saturday, November 18, on the premises of the Hochschule Niederrhein (Obergath 79, 47805 Krefeld).

The organizers of the KReathon are SWK AG and the Hochschule Niederrhein together with Fressnapf Tiernahrungs GmbH as cooperation partners. The hackathon gathers technology fans, web designers, programmers and other digital experts under one roof for 24 hours to take on tricky tasks in a programming competition in the middle of the day-to-day business of the university, SWK and Fressnapf. In the best case scenario, solutions are implemented that will later make it into practice.

The challenges
SWK, Fressnapf and The Hochschule Niederrhein are providing a total of six challenges this year: SWK is looking for new ideas on how to use the data collected by SmartCity, such as the fill levels of waste containers or groundwater levels, and would like to enable customers to find out how large their carbon footprint is, as well as making its own infrastructure greener. Fressnapf wants to know how it can reliably show customers at a glance how sustainable the respective Fressnapf product is and how the sustainability of packaging can be assessed in the best and smartest way. With its challenge, the university is looking for sustainable solutions for smart homes.

All information about the KReathon and the opportunity to register for participation is available at: kreathon(at)krefeld.de. Friends, family and acquaintances of the participants as well as interested parties are cordially invited to the final presentation of the teams' work results and the subsequent award ceremony on 18.11.23, starting at 4 pm.

The jury
In addition to the President of the Hochschule Niederrhein, Dr. Thomas Grünewald, the jury includes professors from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the Hochschule Niederrhein, the Executive Board of SWK - Kerstin Abraham and Carsten Liedtke - and Daniel Wurzberger, Head of Development at Fressnapf.
