You are fascinated by technology, but don't know exactly what you want to study? Our orientation semester helps you decide on the right technical Degree programme. For one semester you will get to know the Faculties of Chemistry, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Mechanical and Process Engineering and Industrial Engineering.

In projects and events you can find out what suits you, what you enjoy and what really excites you. Only then do you decide on one of eight Bachelor's degree programmes. During the semester, you will get to know everyday life at the university and other technology enthusiasts.

The orientation semester begins in the summer semester and precedes the bachelor's program. This allows you to start the Bachelor's degree programme of your choice in the winter semester. The orientation semester enables you to register more regularly, which means that you can apply for BAföG, for example.

 

Contents of the orientation semester
  • Interdisciplinary project assignment in small groups (12 ECTS)
  • Mathematics in Applications (6 ECTS)
  • Sustainability and Technology (6 ECTS)
  • Orientation module with excursions, laboratory tours and exchange with students (3 ECTS)
  • Foreign language (3 ECTS)

  • Bachelor Process Engineering

The respective existing 6-semester Bachelor's Degree programmes are extended to 7 semesters (210 ECTS) with the orientation semester in full-time. This does not change the respective curriculum of the underlying Degree programmes. The joint orientation semester is an extension that precedes the existing Degree programmes. This offers the opportunity to find the right engineering discipline for oneself in the orientation semester and then start the regular bachelor's degree program in the winter semester.

Students thus have the opportunity to begin their studies as early as the summer semester. The application and registration is done in the usual way.

For your study start with the orientation semester in the summer semester 2023, you can apply via our online portal.

If you would like to transfer to our Degree programmes from another degree programme, you should contact the relevant Examinations Board in advance. (We will help arrange the appropriate contact.) It will help with questions relating to the recognition of existing academic achievements and the creation of an individual study plan.

Which studies at The Hochschule Niederrhein are right for me?

In order to support you with regard to your choice of studies, we offer you with the HSNR navigators of the Hochschule Niederrhein the possibility to inform yourself comprehensively about individual Bachelor's degree programmes of our university in the run-up to your studies.

Divided into different topic chapters, you will learn details about programme content, study structure and career prospects in the individual fields. In addition, you will have the opportunity to test yourself on study-related tasks and case studies as part of a "SelfAssessment", i.e. a web-based self-test. Take about an hour and find out to what extent you are interested in such questions and can imagine dealing with topics like these in the next years of your studies and professional life!
