Prospective students

Hochschule Niederrhein. Your way.

Welcome to the Faculty of Chemistry

The Faculty of Chemistry with around 1,000 students is located at the Krefeld West site. Chemistry on the Lower Rhine has a tradition of more than 150 years. 19 professors and numerous staff members supervise our students in the two Bachelor's degree programmes:

  • Chemical Engineering
  • Chemistry and Biotechnology

The two Degree programmes are continued consecutively in the Master. They are available as full-time, dual or part-time/trainee studies.

As a specialization are:

offered.

Further information can be found in the HSNR navigator and under "Further links" (programme content).

The faculty includes the Research Institute for Coatings and Surface Chemistry ( ILOC ) and the Institute of Industrial Safety, Environmental Protection, Health Promotion and Ethics(A.U.G.E.).

We look forward to receiving your application.

  • licensing of chemical production plants

M.Sc. (Full- | Part-time) Lectures by semester

Our Master's degree programmes extend over four semesters in full-time studies and 5 semesters in part-time studies. Part-time studies usually take place on 2 to 3 weekdays at the university. In part-time studies, attendance is spread over 5 semesters and discussed with the professors in charge.

They are geared towards attractive and promising professional fields. In the field of applied organic chemistry, there is an excellent choice for later employment in the chemical-pharmaceutical industry, in research facilities or in companies in the consumer goods sector.

Solving analytical problems in industry, in monitoring agencies and in environmental protection also offers students of the specialisation Instrumental Analysis (IA) very good career opportunities.

Career destinations for biotechnology are in the biotechnical, pharmaceutical, and food and beverage industries.

The following organization chart provides an overview of the courses in each semester. It is also valid for the part-time version.

Detailed information about the master program can be found in the programme contents (course plans & module handbooks, seeFurther links ).

M.Eng. (Full- | Part-time) Lectures by semester

Our Master's degree programmes are spread over four semesters in full-time studies and 5 semesters in part-time degree programmes. Part-time studies usually take place on 2 to 3 weekdays at the university. In part-time studies, attendance is spread over 5 semesters and discussed with the professors in charge.

They are focused on attractive and promising subject areas. In the field of paint technology, the Faculty of Chemistry is almost unique in Germany.

With the increasing role of biotechnological production processes, this specialisation will also be further expanded.

Technical Chemistry offers excellent later employment in chemical production or in development and engineering departments.

The following organization chart provides an overview of the courses in each semester. It also applies to the part-time variant.

Detailed information on the Master's program can be found in the programme contents (course plans & module handbooks, seeFurther links ).

B.Sc., B.Eng. lectures by semester (dual)

Here you will find information about our dual degree programmes.
Dual includes parallel to the Degree programme an apprenticeship as a

  • chemical technician
  • chemical laboratory assistant
  • Paint laboratory assistant
  • Textile laboratory assistant

in the company.

The co-op students spend 2 to 3 days at the university and the studies last 8 semesters parallel to the vocational training.

Detailed information about the studies can be found in the programme contents (course plans & module handbooks, see Further links ).

B.Sc., B.Eng. lectures by semester (Part-time)

Part-time professional studies are conducted over 10 semesters and students are typically at the university 2 to 3 days per week.

The two organizational charts provide an overview of the courses in each semester.

Detailed information on part-time studies can be found in the programme contents (course plans & module handbooks, seeFurther links ).

Funding opportunities for students

There are different ways to finance studies at the Hochschule Niederrhein. On the pages of the Student Services you will find information on the following topics

International

Especially in the international field, we overcome borders: on the one hand through the progressive internationalization of studies, on the other hand through the increasing mobility of students and employees. The Hochschule Niederrhein maintains intensive contacts with numerous partners worldwide with the aim of facilitating international experiences in teaching education, studies or internships. Foreign guests are welcome for short-term study visits or for complete studies. Almost 10 percent of the 14,485 students at the HN come from abroad and are pursuing studies at the Hochschule Niederrhein.

Mint F♀rum

STEM Degree programmes today are more vibrant, diverse and exciting than ever before and far from typical stereotypes. Nevertheless, the number of women in technical, scientific Degree programmes is still low.

The MINT Forum is a network that connects women within the university as well as facilitates contacts with the regional economy.

  • Support at the start of your studies
  • get to know the university and your fellow students better right at the beginning of your studies
  • Networking in everyday university life
  • also across faculties and locations
  • Experienced students as contacts
  • Support and advice throughout the entire course of studies
  • Talks and lectures with and by career women
  • to exchange experiences and make contacts
  • Soft skills workshops
  • for personal continuing training and skills development
  • preparation for professional life
  • networking with companies of the regional economy and the startup scene
