The Hochschule Niederrhein and Shimonoseki City University in Japan have signed a partnership agreement.

President Susanne Meyer and Vice-President for International Affairs Takaaki Shochi signed the agreement at the end of September.

The first student exchange will be possible from the 2027 summer term.

From 29th of June till 9th of July Eman (middle, right) from the German-Jordanian University (GJU) is visiting HSNR's International Office.

Apart from work-shadowing and meeting with members of the Department of Engineering and Computer Science, where most of the Jordanian exchange students spend their time abroad, we exchange ideas on best practices and benefit from the intercultural perspectives that Eman provides us with. 

We are very grateful for the exchange and insights and hope to make Eman's stay as productive and inspiring as possible.

On 22 June, a group of 25 international students visited the North Rhine-Westphalian State Parliament in Düsseldorf.

The excursion proved to be a great success.

The highlight was a meeting with Josefine Paul, the former Minister for Children, Youth, Family, Equality, Refugees and Integration for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. The discussion centred on sport, inclusion, discrimination, the Foreigners’ Registration Office, immigration in Germany and social participation.

The organisers, our student Welcome Guides Lea and Monika, were also delighted: “Seeing how 25 international students were able to share their perspectives, questions and experiences directly with a German politician shows me just how important such formats for exchange and active participation are,” was their positive conclusion at the end.

Following such a successful launch, this event format will certainly be firmly established in the Welcome Centre’s annual calendar.
