You live far away from the university? You have children at home and need to organize care for a counseling appointment? You have a (chronic) illness and the way to the university is troublesome? We now offer online counseling via the "Adobe Connect" tool in addition to face-to-face counseling. This allows us to provide face-to-face counseling without having to sit across from each other "in real life".
How does online consulting work?
We set up a consultation appointment (as we normally would), for example, via email. We then set up a chat room for that appointment on Adobe Connect and email you an access link. You can log in by name (or anonymously) at the appointed time and the consultation begins. You (!) choose how you want to communicate - in writing via chat, verbally as in a phone call, and/or with a camera - almost like a "normal" conversation.
"Why online consulting, you can do it by phone...?"
The advantage of consulting in Adobe Connect (compared to a phone call, for example) is that we can access digital materials together with you on Adobe Connect. For example, we can show you the degree programme pathway or show you where to find certain information on the university website, etc.
Important: If you do not have access to a PC (or there are other reasons why online advising is not possible) we can of course also provide advising over the phone.
"I have concerns about confidentiality and privacy..."
Adobe Connect is provided by the German Research Network (DFN) and thus meets our (high) requirements on the topic of data protection and confidentiality. The chat takes place in a locked chat room set up especially for you, so that only you and I as the consultant are digitally "present". There is no storage of protocols, as well as no recordings or the like. I take the issue of confidentiality just as seriously as in a face-to-face consultation.
Technical requirements:
You will need a PC with Adobe Flash Player (recommended: Flash Player 11.2 and higher), a stable internet connection, as well as a headset/micro and (if you like) a camera. For more information on technical requirements, click here.
