Professor Beate Küpper of the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences participated in the Friedrich Ebert Foundation's Mitte Study. The result: the middle of society is becoming increasingly receptive to extremist and anti-democratic attitudes. Misanthropic attitudes are on the rise, and part of the center is becoming radicalized. Every two years, the Mitte study examines right-wing extremist attitudes and those that pose a threat to democracy.
In particular, the current study takes a look at the perception of crises and the consequences for political attitudes in the middle of society and possible radicalization. "Democracy is fragile, we need to nurture it instead of wantonly trampling on it," Küpper says.
