Workshop on business start-up financing Bankenverband NRW

Faculty of Business Administration and Economics cooperates with banking association NRW

Mönchengladbach. Many young people dream of having their own start-up - and some are already living it. But if you want to start up, you need capital, investors and other sources of funding. The Hochschule Niederrhein would like to promote the topic more strongly during studies - and is now working together with the Bankenverband NRW to this end. The Faculty of Business Administration and Economics in Mönchengladbach is therefore now offering modules in the Master's course in Banking and Finance Management every semester.

Steffen Schmidt from Commerzbank Düsseldorf and André Hüsken from Deutsche Bank Düsseldorf recently made the start. On the topics of "From the idea to the business plan - what does a start-up need for financing?" and "Family, friends, fools and the banks - how do I find investors?", the first two speakers gave important tips on what to look out for. The students were then asked to work out tasks in working groups.

But founding a company does not always run smoothly. There are many hurdles to overcome - and failure is one of them. Dr. Nico Peters, founder of the successful start-up Compeon Düsseldorf, will report on failures, bad luck and mishaps at the next module on November 30. Stephan Kurz from NRW.Bank will then also be a guest. He will show what start-up aid and funding programs are available.

By working closely with experts who contribute their experience from practical applications, students come into contact with industry experts at an early stage and make their first contacts directly. Prof. Dr. Bernhard Müller, in whose compulsory course the workshops take place, sees great added value in the events, and not just for the budding business economists. He hopes that the HSNR's technical degree programmes will also take part in the long term and benefit from the know-how. After all, there are numerous start-ups in which software development, for example, plays a fundamental role.
