The day-to-day working lives of academics are currently undergoing change. Interdisciplinary collaboration – both across different countries and through increasing links with departments outside one’s own field – requires a skillset that goes beyond technical expertise. And, not least, developments in artificial intelligence are changing the requirements for academics and engineers.
But how well are studies equipped to meet these demands? The ‘Innovation at Risk’ study by VDI Young Engineers shows that we have a very high standard of technical apprenticeship in Germany. However, when it comes to interdisciplinary skills in particular, your own commitment is also essential.
We want to show you what skills the engineers of tomorrow need and how a network like VDI Young Engineers can be of benefit.

Take part in the Career Challenge!
Attend two Career Service workshops during Campus Week and complete a learning pathway on Moodle and register by 3 November 2026 at workshops(at)hs-niederrhein.de by 3 November 2026, stating that you have completed the Challenge. This will put you in the prize draw!
