The history of the city of Krefeld, also known as the "velvet and silk city", is impressive. This is also made clear in the article "A city on a silken thread - 650 years of Krefeld" by Georg Opdenberg in the current expenditure of the generation magazine Zwischentöne. The 650th anniversary was the reason for planning this series of lectures. We are delighted that we have been able to attract experts who will shed light on selected aspects of Krefeld's history.

Krefeld - a brief overview of the city's development since the end of the Middle Ages

Dr. Christoph Dautermann
City historian, deputy museum director Museum Burg Linn

Thursday | 11.07.2024 | 14:15 - 15:45 | via Zoom

Starting from the small town in the High Middle Ages, the lecture will cover the development of the settlement and population up to the present day in fast motion. Among other things, it will be shown that today's urban form is the result of a process lasting many hundreds of years and that Krefeld consists not only of today's city center, but also of several settlements, such as Uerdingen and Linn, which for a long time claimed the title of city.
