Developing and securing specialists - the shortage of skilled workers in Germany is the topic of the conference of the University Alliance for SMEs (HafM). It deals with questions such as: In which areas are the needs in SMEs most pressing? How can and should the shortage of skilled workers be remedied? What can be done to alleviate the skills shortage from the perspective of industry and SMEs? What role do universities play in this? How do transfer and research at universities of applied sciences contribute to solving the skills shortage?

These and other questions will be discussed with representatives from business, science and politics on Monday, January 29, 2024, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Haus der Deutschen Wirtschaft in Berlin or via live stream. The focus will be on the requirements of SMEs as well as the possibilities and opportunities of joint trade. The panel will include Prof. Dr. Kira Kastell (Chairwoman of the HafM Executive Board), Sabine Baumann-Duvenbeck (Managing Director of Viktor Baumann GmbH & Co. KG), Prof. Dr. Peter Ritzenhoff (Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences and HAfM Managing Director), Dr. Dr. Daniela De Ridder (SPD Member of Parliament), Christoph Ahlhaus (Chairman of the Federal Executive Board of the Federal Association of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises BVMW), Carl-Julius Cronenberg, Member of Parliament (FDP) and Managing Partner of Julius Cronenberg Sophienhammer, Dr. Volker Meyer-Guckel, Secretary General of the Donors' Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany, Julia Flasdick (DIHK).

Among other things, two sessions are planned with impulses on educational offers and securing skilled workers. The degree will be rounded off with a panel discussion with representatives from politics and business.
