An afternoon in the print workshop

On and around 15 March 2025, artists, printing workshops, museums, universities, art associations and other stakeholders will be demonstrating just how vibrant the art of printing is: from traditional techniques to experimental printmaking. The Hochschule Niederrhein's Faculty of Design will also be taking part in the "Day of Printmaking" for the first time.

On Saturday afternoon (2 to 5 p.m.), interested adults and children can take a look behind the scenes at the printing workshop of the Faculty of Design (Frankenring 20). Christoph Lehmann, academic staff member for Typography and Print Tools Basic, will demonstrate printing on the proof press and on a small platen. Admission is free.

"New technologies have inevitably led to a natural displacement of knowledge and practice of historical craft techniques in printing. We are delighted that at designkrefeld we can introduce our students to the roots of typographic design in an experimental way with very well-equipped workshops," says Nora Gummert-Hauser, professor at the Faculty of Design.

On 15 March 2018, the UNESCO Commission added the artistic printing techniques of relief printing, intaglio printing, planographic printing, through-printing and their hybrid forms to the nationwide list of intangible cultural heritage.
