The Hochschule Niederrhein is offering a range of free workshops during the autumn half-term for pupils from Year 7 right through to A-levels. Whether it’s nutrition, programming, artificial intelligence (AI) or cybersecurity, participants aged 13 and over can experiment, programme and learn about new technologies for themselves at the Mönchengladbach and Krefeld campuses.
designkrefeld designlab: An introduction to the world of design
What is it like to study design? What can students expect in their day-to-day studies, and how do they develop their own creative ideas? At the ‘designkrefeld designlab’, sixth-form pupils from Year 11 onwards can discover the world of design and gain an initial insight into studies leading to a design degree.
The two-day taster week takes place on 21 and 22 October, from 10 am to 4 pm each day, at the Krefeld West campus. Participants will have the opportunity to experience the studies first-hand and explore the subject matter and working methods in design.
There are 20 places available for the “designkrefeld designlab”. Those interested can register for the event using the registration form.
‘The High-Protein Myth’: Nutrition Meets Research
What is actually behind the ‘high-protein’ trend? How much protein do our foods actually contain? And why does our body need protein?
Pupils will explore these questions in the workshop ‘Science Snack: “The High-Protein Myth” – Nutrition Meets Research’, organised by the Faculty of Food and Nutrition Sciences. They will get hands-on experience by measuring the protein content of selected foods in the laboratory.
The workshop will take place on 22 October from 11 am to 4 pm at the Mönchengladbach campus. There are six places available for the event. Registrations can be made by 16 October by emailing feriencampus(at)hs-niederrhein.de.
CodeCamp: Programming, Virtual Reality and Cybersecurity
At ‘CodeCamp: Mönchengladbach’, a total of 20 participants will learn how to develop games and web apps using HTML and JavaScript. They will also gain insights into the topics of virtual reality and cybersecurity. No prior knowledge is required.
The CodeCamp will take place from 27 to 30 October, from 9 am to 3 pm each day, at the Digilab (Room W 205) on the Mönchengladbach campus, Webschulstraße 41-4. Registrations can be made by emailing info(at)zdi-mg.de. Please state ‘CodeCampus HSNR’ in the subject line.
Coding@HSNR: Programming with Raspberry Pi
In the “Coding@HSNR: Krefeld” workshop series, pupils learn how to programme using the Raspberry Pi or can take part in an advanced course to build on their existing knowledge. The focus includes, amongst other things, programming websites, alarm systems, smart home control and artificial intelligence.
Students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science deliver the content with a strong practical orientation and demonstrate, amongst other things, autonomous vehicles and robots. The ‘Hack-me-if-you-can’ hacking game is also part of the programme.
The workshop takes place from 19 to 22 October, from 9 am to 3 pm each day, at the Krefeld South Campus. Lunch (excluding drinks) will be provided. To register, please email coding(at)hsnr.de.
