If you would like to combine your interests in fashion, textiles and technology, you can take the Bachelor's degree programme in Design Engineering at the Faculty of Textile and Clothing Technology at The Hochschule Niederrhein. The prerequisite for admission is passing an aptitude assessment test (EFP). Prospective students can register for the next examination until 20 May. The examination itself will take place digitally and by post on 30 and 31 May.
The Design Engineering degree programme combines creative design with technical expertise in textile and clothing production. Among other things, students learn how creative designs can be brought together with technological processes and how sustainable products can be developed.
The aptitude assessment examiner tests three key skills: Perceptual ability, composition and presentation skills and imagination. The aim is not to develop perfect fashion or textile designs. Rather, lecturers want to recognise whether applications have the creative talent and potential to further develop these skills during their studies.
In the examination, participants work on several design tasks, such as analytical drawing, surface design or developing their own ideas for fashion or textile designs. The work is first created independently, then digitised and uploaded to an examination platform. The originals are then submitted by post.
Passed aptitude tests generally remain valid for five subsequent enrolment dates. The examination can be repeated a maximum of two times if it is not passed. All information on the examination and preparation instructions are available online:
