Students Lena Bothe and Julia Niemeyer from the Faculty of Design at The Hochschule Niederrhein are among the winners of the 39th German Student Union poster competition. Their works were selected from a total of 745 entries from 37 universities and are among the 29 best poster motifs in the competition.
Both posters were created as part of seminars with Prof Richard Jung and Prof Nora Gummert-Hauser. The theme of this year's competition was "Campus of the Future" - a call for creative exploration of the question of how universities can be designed, experienced and thought about in the future.
"The university is more than just a place where we learn. It is a place of encounter, creativity and co-design. A place where ideas are born and tested in practical applications. Our 'campus of the future' needs our initiative. Now is the time to take responsibility, rethink sustainability and initiate real change. Together, we can make campus life flourish," says Julia Niemeyer, describing her design.
"Will we all be sitting at home in front of our laptops? Will we study together in a green campus garden? What values and knowledge will we be taught in the future? How will artificial intelligence change or even replace our studies? No one knows what the campus of the future will look like. But if we want to help shape our future and not leave everything to chance, politics or technological progress, we need to be bold. With my poster, I want to encourage 'thinking big'. To be courageous. To not always settle for the familiar, but to become active."
The award ceremony took place at the Museum for Communication in Berlin at the end of June. The winning selection is now part of a touring exhibition that will be on display at student unions and the Bonn Science Centre from autumn 2025.
