Mönchengladbach. How committed are employees in Germany really, and which factors encourage or hinder their commitment in their day-to-day working lives? The ‘Human Resources’ Master’s course at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics at the Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) is currently addressing this question as part of a research project.
The study focuses on what is known as ‘work engagement’, a key success factor in modern working environments. It describes the extent to which employees go beyond simply fulfilling their duties to actively and enthusiastically support their work and their company with personal commitment. The students aim to determine empirically the extent of engagement in the German workplace and which organisational and individual factors play a role in this.
“As part of the seminar, we regularly examine current issues in occupational and organisational psychology,” explains Dr Alexander Cisik, professor of Business, Organisational and Occupational Psychology at the HSNR, who is supervising the project. “The topic of work engagement is particularly relevant here, as it is closely linked to motivation, productivity and staff retention.”
An anonymous online survey has been launched to collect data. Employees from all sectors are invited to take part in the study. Taking part takes just a few minutes, is completely anonymous and is for academic purposes only. The questionnaire is available online until 17 July 2026: https://verwaltung.hs-niederrhein.de/sosci/ForschungsprojektHR-Engagement/
The results of the research project will subsequently be made publicly available: https://www.hs-niederrhein.de/business-administration-and-economics/persons-faculty-of-business-administration-and-economics/cisik/#c31291
