foodineum represented at Green Week in Berlin

The Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) and the Rhine district of Neuss are presenting their joint cooperation project foodineum at this year's International Green Week in Berlin. The leading trade fair for food, agriculture and horticulture takes place from 16 to 25 January and is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

A total of around 110 companies and initiatives from North Rhine-Westphalia will be represented on the 1,200 square metre NRW joint stand. The foodineum will be taking part in the Foodhub NRW stand and will be travelling there together with several project and network partners. They will each have the opportunity to present themselves at the stand for three days. For example, the start-up Happen will be presenting its protein-rich, savoury snacks, while the Food & Nutrition Lab of the Faculty of Food and Nutrition Sciences at Hochschule Niederrhein will be providing insights into its current research activities in nutrition and food science.

By participating in the Green Week, the newly founded foodineum aims to publicise itself to an international audience of experts and further expand its network within the food industry. The trade fair offers a central platform for making contact with companies, research facilities, institutions and other players along the food value chain.

"The foodineum is exemplary for the scientifically sound transfer of research into practical applications. Our applied research in nutrition and food science provides important impetus for innovative, sustainable products and processes along the entire value chain. The International Green Week offers an excellent platform to make this scientific expertise visible, to intensify the dialogue with industry and society and to jointly develop forward-looking solutions for the food industry," says Kathleen Diener, Vice President of the HSNR (Research Department).

The foodineum presented itself together with other NRW exhibitors at the NRW Ministry of Agriculture and Consumer Protection on 7 January. The project thus accepted the invitation of Minister Silke Gorißen, who gave the press a first insight into the diverse topics and specialisations of the NRW stand at the Green Week.

The foodineum is an innovative interface between business, science and society. It pools expertise, infrastructure and networks in order to establish the Rhenish mining area as a model region for a competitive, sustainable and innovative food industry. At the same time, the aim is to increase the attractiveness of the location and thus actively shape structural change.

District Director Dirk Brügge emphasises: "With the foodineum, we are creating a strong bridge between science and business in the food industry. The presence at the Green Week offers an excellent opportunity to present the innovation potential of our region to an international audience of experts and to make the Rhine district of Neuss visible as a future-oriented location for the agricultural and food industry. Together with The Hochschule Niederrhein, we are providing targeted impetus for sustainable value creation, innovation and structural change in the Rhenish mining area."

The foodineum is a cooperation project between the Rhine district of Neuss and the HSNR and is sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and co-financed by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
