As part of the MuseumsUni Krefeld programme, exciting lectures are offered for pupils from secondary schools at the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum (KWM) in Krefeld. Held by professors from The Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR), all lectures present current research topics and relate to the exhibition "Charlotte Perriand. L'Art d'habiter/The Art of Living" at the KWM.
The MuseumsUni Krefeld was successfully launched in 2023 as a joint project between the Kunstmuseen Krefeld and The Hochschule Niederrhein in Krefeld and is now taking place for the third time. In their lectures, professors will give an insight into their main areas of work, and middle and upper school students will learn how diverse the subjects and topics at the HSNR are. From November 2025 to January 2026, the events will always take place at lunchtime (12.00 to 13.30) and are aimed at class groups accompanied by up to two teachers or chaperones. Admission is free.
The event kicks off on 10 November with the lecture "A good life for all? City on the move: How youth culture shapes urbanity" by Professor Dr Sascha Thorsten Schierz (Faculty of Applied Social Sciences, professorship of Youth Sociology and
Social Control), which - like all events at MuseumsUni 25/26 - will be followed by a dialogue-based guided tour of selected works in the exhibition "Charlotte Perriand. L'Art d'habiter. The Art of Living". With this exhibition, the Kunstmuseen Krefeld are dedicating the first comprehensive retrospective in Germany to the French architect and designer Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999). As one of the most influential personalities from Le Corbusier's circle, she shaped modern living by combining innovative design with positive social change.
One week later, on 17 November, the event "Think & move global. Building bridges through internationalisation and transcultural dialogue, art and design" by Sebastian Sabas (Head of the International Office at The Hochschule Niederrhein). On 1 December, Prof. Nicolas Beucker from the Faculty of Design will deal with "Sustainable living in transition" and the question "Which forms of living determine our present and future?".
The interactive lecture by Prof Dr Marina-Elena Wachs, Kristina Rem and Theresa Scholl from the Faculty of Textile and Clothing Technology will focus on the "Design of the Future" in the new year. The scientists will be focussing on the topic of "Designing spatial concepts between the >self< and AI". The MuseumsUni will conclude on 26 January with the topic "Equality makes a career. On equal opportunities, diversity and diversity in schools, apprenticeships and careers" by Prof Dr Frauke Austermann (Faculty of Business Administration and Economics).
Museum Director Katia Baudin is delighted that the MuseumsUni Krefeld is entering the next round together with The Hochschule Niederrhein: "The MuseumsUni shows how enriching collaboration between art and science can be. Together with The Hochschule Niederrhein, we are adding new perspectives to our educational programme and creating links between research, teaching education and cultural practice. Both institutions benefit from this, but ultimately, of course, it is the pupils who benefit most."
With the MuseumsUni in Krefeld and Mönchengladbach, The Hochschule Niederrhein aims to inform pupils about its own programme at an early stage. "Professors give lectures that are suitable for pupils and provide an initial insight into selected topics," says Professor Dr Donja Amirpur, Vice President for University Culture and Diversity. "Through formats such as the MuseumsUni, we create links to the exciting topics of our teaching education and research, but also recognise the issues and concerns of urban society and bring them back into the university."
