From AI to art: the new FAUST guest lecture programme is here!

The Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) has published the FAUST guest student programme for the winter semester 2025/2026. The programme is aimed at all interested people and offers a comprehensive educational and cultural programme with over 200 lectures and seminars. The events take place in face-to-face, digital or hybrid form. Registration is possible from 1 to 19 September 2025.

To kick off the semester, the organisers Miriam Grates, Nicole Klösges and Prof. Dr Moritz Heß invite you to the kick-off event on the Mönchengladbach campus (Room S E01, Building S, Richard-Wagner-Straße 101) on Thursday, 25 September from 2 to 4:30 pm. Participants will be given a preview of the upcoming programme and the opportunity to exchange ideas in person.

Under the label "FAUSTplus", you will find lecture series, seminars and creative workshops on topics such as art, music, philosophy, biography work and health that have been specially developed for guest students.

One of the lecture series is entitled "The tension between fear and trust" (start: 9 October). Among other things, it explores the question of how fears arise and what role trust plays in social interaction. Participation is possible on site in Mönchengladbach (Room 301, Building S) or online.

In Krefeld, the lecture series "Borders" (start: 28 October) in the Future Work Lab (Petersstraße 122) will examine the topic from a multidisciplinary perspective. The free event, which is open to the public, will be moderated by Prof Dr Erik Schmid, Dean of the Faculty of Design.

The topic of artificial intelligence (AI) will also be addressed from various angles: In the guest lecture forum, Gisela Delfs-Swora and Helmut Ott will address the mathematical foundation course and the responsible use of AI in everyday life. Dr Rolf Keuchen encourages philosophical discussion, while Albert Verleysdonk teaches the practical application in a seminar.

In addition, guest students can attend selected courses from regular degree programmes in the Faculties of Chemistry, Design, Engineering and Computer Sciences, Oecotrophology, Social Sciences, Textile and Clothing Technology, Business Administration and Economics and Health Care. For the first time, lectures from the new "Applied Psychology" degree programme are also on offer. Students who want to learn foreign languages or improve their existing knowledge can take appropriate language courses.

Digital events are held using Zoom video conferencing software. A microphone and webcam are helpful, but not a requirement. For newcomers, introductory courses on the use of Zoom and the "moodle" learning platform are offered before the start of the semester.

The guest auditor fee is 125 euros per semester for all courses. All guest students receive an ID card that entitles them to use the canteen, language centres and libraries. The programme booklet can be obtained in digital and printed form via the homepage. You can register online or in writing from 1 to 19 September 2025 and in person in Mönchengladbach and Krefeld from 8 to 19 September 2025.
