The Faculty of Food and Nutrition Sciences at Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) is once again taking part in Slow Food Germany's World Disco Soup Day. On Saturday, 25 April 2026, the Rheydt weekly market (41236 Mönchengladbach) will be transformed into a "snipping disco" from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: saved food will be cooked, eaten and celebrated together to music.
The aim of the event is to raise awareness of food waste in a creative way and promote appreciation for food.
The Food and Nutrition Lab of the Faculty of Food and Nutrition Sciences at the HSNR will also be taking part. Visitors can look forward to interactive activities such as quizzes, memory games and tasting stations all about vegetables, which will be processed on site. "We want to show how much fun sustainable nutrition can be and impart knowledge at the same time," says ecotrophologist Lara Sibum from the Faculty of Food and Nutrition Sciences.
The Food and Nutrition Lab is aimed particularly at pupils and offers practical orientation in the Bachelor's degree programmes in nutrition and food science. In so-called "Science Snacks", they examine the sugar content of drinks, alternative protein sources or plant-based drinks, among other things, and learn to critically scrutinise health information. Interested students also have the opportunity to complete internships in the faculty's laboratories and gain an insight into the relevant degree programmes.
Further insights into the Faculty of Food and Nutrition Sciences will be provided at the "School meets University" event on 10 June 2026 (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.) on the campus in Mönchengladbach.
