Magazine release "Da/Zwischen" - visual storytelling on current social issues

In the winter semester 2025/26, students from the Faculty of Design at The Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) jointly developed a magazine as part of the cooperative seminar "Visual Storytelling in Magazine Format". The first expenditure is entitled "Da/Zwischen". The official presentation will take place on Wednesday, 4 February 2026, from 5:30 pm in the "Leerstand - Saal X" at Karlsplatz 8 in Krefeld. The magazine will be presented for the first time in a relaxed atmosphere and with music by DJane Laura Lin.

"Da/Zwischen" is dedicated to socially relevant topics. The 15 articles and photo spreads address issues that are both topical and of central importance - including topics such as gender, migration, mental illness, escapism, poverty and dealing with artificial intelligence. The magazine was created in close collaboration between the Editorial Design and Photography project courses. It was conceived, realised and produced in a small print run. Interested parties have the opportunity to purchase the magazine on site in return for a donation. There will also be an exclusive exhibition of selected images from the articles, which will be offered for sale as edition prints.

"A magazine is more than just a designed product - it is a complex communication system that combines content, design, typography, photography and target group appeal. In this cooperative seminar, we offered students the most practical orientation possible to experience editorial work from the initial concept to the finished product. We are therefore very pleased to present the first expenditure of the magazine series 'Da' with the title 'Zwischen'!", explain Jens Könen (Professorship Representative) and Professor Paula Markert, who led the seminar together at the Faculty of Design.

"Da/Zwischen" is a creative project by students on the Communication Design degree programme that combines the Editorial Design and Photography courses.
