Almost everyone comes into contact with professional care sooner or later, be it in hospital, in a nursing home or at home with relatives. The need for well-trained personnel is constantly growing. The Hochschule Niederrhein offers prospective nurses the opportunity to gain academic qualifications in parallel with their apprenticeship or career-integrated degree programme in nursing.
The Faculty of Health Care is organising the "Nursing Day" information day on 20 April from 10 am to 1 pm. Lecturers, students and graduates will present the Nursing degree programme and provide insights into the learning objectives and future career opportunities. Interested parties can get to know the university during a taster lecture and campus tour. All information and registration: www.hs-niederrhein.de/tag-der-pflege
"The aim of the degree programme is to combine nursing practice with professional, ethical and organisational skills in order to sustainably improve the quality of care," says Professor Dr Hayder-Beichel, Head of the Degree Programme at the Faculty of Health Care. In hospitals, care homes and nursing homes, there is a growing need for personnel who can improve the quality of care in their own facilities.
Meike Hagemeister, a qualified nurse on a general and thoracic surgery ward, emphasises the practical relevance: "Supporting people with specialist knowledge and empathy in a wide variety of life situations is both challenging and rewarding." She contributes her knowledge to both patient care and teamwork and supports colleagues with care-specific topics.
"I take on responsibility in areas of management and development, which is important to me," says graduate Samssoudini Adjai, head of nursing at an elderly care facility. Professional nursing offers a field of work in which professional expertise, empathy and a sense of responsibility interact. "The degree programme is very diverse. The theoretical foundation courses can be directly applied to my everyday work. That's what makes the studies so worthwhile."
The studies also open up opportunities to bring knowledge to the public and impart it to citizens. Together with a colleague, graduate Katharina Kremer developed the project "Mission rettende Hände - Lebensrettung für Jedermann" (Mission Saving Hands - Lifesaving for Everyone). The aim is to train relatives of people in need of care or who have a cardiological history: "We discussed realistic cases and practised resuscitation measures. After two hours, the participants felt more confident and well prepared for an emergency."
The Hochschule Niederrhein's Nursing degree programme offers an undergraduate course and leads to a Bachelor of Science degree. It is offered in two types of degree programmes: career-integrated studies and part-time studies. Interested parties can find out more about the degree programme at the Nursing Day between 10 am and 1 pm.
