The "RAU|SCH|EN" project will bring together art, cultural policy and democratic participation in Krefeld on 23 and 24 January 2026. The project was initiated by students and lecturers from the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences at Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) and artists. The aim is not only to show art, but to make it tangible as a collaborative process and as an impulse for social discussion.
"RAU|SCH|EN" understands "intoxication" not as a loss of control, but as a creative state of intense perception, openness and collaboration. Artists, students and the audience meet at eye level and organise the events together. This creates a space in which participation, co-determination and creative design can be experienced directly.
The event will kick off on Friday, 23 January 2026, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the Cultural Policy Salon at the Future Work Lab (Petersstraße 122) in Krefeld. Representatives from the arts, politics and science will discuss local cultural policy, opportunities for participation and the use of spaces for art, education and exchange. The focus will be on positive examples and initiatives that are already working: What is working well? What can be developed further? And how can art make cities more vibrant? The example of the Neusser Straße municipal swimming pool will be used to discuss future utilisation options and the idea of a youth cultural centre. The audience is invited to actively participate via an open microphone. The number of participants is limited to 50 people. Please register via: https: //pretix.eu/rauschen/salon/
The project will continue on Saturday, 24 January 2026, from 8 pm at Stadtbad Neusser Straße. The transdisciplinary art event "Elektrolyrik im Stadtbad" will transform the historic building into a temporary art and culture venue. In small groups, visitors will experience sound art, performances, texts and philosophical impulses. Art, space and audience enter into a direct dialogue and make shared experience and creative collaboration tangible.
Participants include Julian Müller and Jörg Wockenfuß with sound actions, singer Emma Naughton, Dr Wolfgang Buschlinger with philosophical impulses and students from the HSNR's Cultural Education degree programme. The art event will be followed by a concert and a bar for socialising. As the building is not heated, warm clothing is recommended. Those interested can register here: https: //pretix.eu/rauschen/elektrolyrik/
The event is also the presentation of their indoor project for the 14 students on the Cultural Education Bachelor's programme in the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences. Over the course of two semesters, they have worked intensively on a socially relevant topic and realised it through cultural education and art.
