Reading with Martin Speer: An insight into "When the last woman leaves the room"

Gender Equality, Family Services and the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences at The Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) invite you to a hybrid reading with the author and activist Martin Speer on 3 December 2025. The event starts at 5 pm (admission from 4.30 pm) and can be followed on site (Room JE09, Building J, Obergath 79) or online via Zoom. Admission is free.

Interested parties are asked to register by e-mail at gleichstellung-events(at)hs-niederrhein.de, stating the number of people, the event title and the desired form of participation (online or in person).

In his book and lectures, Martin Speer, co-author of "When the last woman leaves the room", explores the question of how men think about gender equality and how deeply rooted thought patterns prevent gender equality. Using typical statements such as "This gender fuss is girl stuff" or "We really have more important problems than equality", Speer shows how these often unreflected attitudes characterise social interaction and how they can be overcome. His approach is not aimed at apportioning blame, but at constructive dialogue and progress.

As a HeForShe ambassador for UN Women and member of the Gender Equality Advisory Council of the G7 countries (GEAC), Martin Speer brings international expertise in gender equality work.
