Science meets the stage and competition: at the Science Slam on Tuesday 13 October, seven slammers will present their scientific topics in a creative, accessible and entertaining way, each in eight minutes. The event begins at 7.00 pm in the main auditorium V2 at the Hochschule Niederrhein (Webschulstraße 41–43). It is organised by the Wissenschaftlicher Verein Mönchengladbach e.V. in cooperation with the Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR).
Interested members of the public can register by emailing veranstaltung(at)hsnr.de by 9 October 2026. Attendance is free of charge. Doors open at 6.30 pm.
Participants include, amongst others, students, staff and professors from the HSNR. The topics range from mineral extraction and the bioeconomy, through breastfeeding after a caesarean section and psychoneuroimmunology, to university teaching methodology, software architecture, robotics and artificial intelligence. Two pupils from the Bischöfliche Marienschule in Mönchengladbach are also taking the opportunity to present their scientific idea on stage.
There is no expert jury: visitors will vote for their own favourites. The winners can look forward to prize money totalling 600 euros.
The event will open with welcoming addresses by Ludolf Kolsdorf, Chair of the Wissenschaftlicher Verein Mönchengladbach e.V., and Professor Dr Michael Heber, Vice-President for Studies and Teaching Education at the Hochschule Niederrhein. Mönchengladbach’s Lord Mayor, Felix Heinrichs, will also be present at the event.
“Science affects us all. Yet many fascinating research topics often remain hidden from view in everyday life or seem complicated at first glance. With the Science Slam, we want to show that science can be understandable, entertaining and surprising. The wide variety of topics on our stage highlights just how many different questions science is addressing today,” says Ludolf Kolsdorf, Chair of the Wissenschaftlicher Verein Mönchengladbach e.V.
