Students honoured with tutor award

The Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) has once again honoured particularly committed students with the Tutor Award this year. The award recognises the outstanding commitment of tutors who support their fellow students on their study path.

Tom Pätsch from the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences was honoured in the "Specialist Tutor" category. Specialist tutors support their fellow students in following up on the content of lectures and preparing for written examinations.

The distinction in the "First Semester Tutor" category went to Christina Franziska Schneider from the Faculty of Food and Nutrition Sciences. First semester tutors accompany new students as they start their studies and help them find their way around campus. "In addition to looking after a group of around 20 newcomers, my tasks also included drawing up the timetable together, answering questions about studies and helping with problems. As I have been helping out as a first-year tutor since 2023, I have introduced and supervised a total of three cohorts to their studies," says Schneider, who is studying nutritional sciences.

To prepare for their task, tutors go through the university's tutor programme, which includes methodological and didactic training. Successful participation is recognised with a certificate and teaches valuable key competencies that are also important beyond their studies.

The honourees each received a certificate and a non-cash prize at the annual tutor reception. The tutor prize has been awarded annually in several categories since 2011. The selection is made by a jury consisting of professors, academic staff and former award winners.
