The Faculty of Health Care at Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) is organising a symposium on "Incontinence and Continence Promotion" together with the "Incontinence" working group of the German Society for Nursing Science on 18 June 2026. The event will take place from 10:00 to 16:00 in Building H, Room H210, at Krefeld South Campus (Reinarzstraße 49).
Incontinence is one of the most common but also one of the most taboo care phenomena worldwide. As part of World Incontinence Week, the symposium aims to raise awareness of the reality of life for those affected, make nursing expertise visible and promote professional exchange.
The event will focus on three central topics: experiencing and coping with incontinence, developing the skills of carers and interventions to promote continence and compensate for incontinence. Numerous specialist presentations will shed light on the topics from different scientific and practical perspectives.
Speakers include those affected, nursing scientists, urotherapists and specialists from practice and research. Topics will include psycho-social aspects of urinary incontinence, experiences of people with faecal incontinence, person-centred care approaches and trainees' views on dealing with incontinence.
The lecture programme will be supplemented by workshops with a practical emphasis / orientation. Participants can choose between three options: "Anal irrigation for faecal incontinence", "Condom urinal in continence management" and "TENA SmartCare Identifi for optimal care".
With the symposium, the organisers want to strengthen nursing knowledge, make the realities of care visible and further develop the professional discussion of continence and incontinence.
