20 prospective engineers from The Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) got to know the German-Dutch labour market on a FutureTour. The excursion took them to companies in Grefrath and Venlo and showed them how many career opportunities are right on their doorstep.
"We want our students to have the widest possible choice of exciting employers for their future careers. Together with the SGA, we therefore want to break down potential barriers that arise due to the sometimes unknown Dutch labour market. Getting to know companies in both countries personally at an early stage can open doors later on," says Désirée Krüger, Head of Career Services at HSNR.
The starting point was the Krefeld South Campus, from where they travelled to Polytex Sportbeläge-Produktions-GmbH in Grefrath. The company opened its production halls and showed how modern sports and floor coverings are made. The students were able to get an idea of everyday working life and talk to specialists.
The group then travelled on to Venlo to Canon Production Printing. There, the company presented innovative printing and production technology and provided information about entry and development opportunities for young engineers.
The Hochschule Niederrhein's Career Service organised the tour together with the Service GrenzArbeit (SGA). The aim is to make it easier for students to gain access to employers in the border region and reduce their fears of the Dutch labour market.
The two partners want to continue the programme in the future in order to further strengthen the exchange between regional companies and students.
