This coming weekend (10–12 July 2026), the regatta course on Lake Elfrath in Krefeld will become the centre of German and international university rowing. The start of the German University Rowing Championships (DHM) on Friday marks the beginning of a three-day regatta weekend as part of what is known as a ‘triple championship’.
Alongside the DHM, the ‘German Rowing Championships for Medium and Large Boats’ and the ‘Open German Masters Championships’ will take place at the same time. The event is jointly organised by the German Rowing Federation, the General German University Sports Association (adh), the Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) and the Crefelder Ruder-Club.
Currently, 48 universities with more than 600 students have registered for the competitions. Athletes from the Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) are also among the competitors.
Sports programme from Friday to Sunday
The event kicks off on Friday at around 4.00 pm with the first DHM races. On Saturday, the regatta action begins in the early hours of the morning. Of particular interest to spectators are the first final races, starting at around 2.00 pm. The highlight of the day is the prize-giving ceremony for students at around 7.00 pm. On Sunday, the final races begin as early as 11.00 am, each followed immediately by a prize-giving ceremony.
Competitive sport and the promotion of young talent
The DHM races represent the highest competitive level in student rowing. Here, the athletes compete for national titles and, at the same time, for potential nominations for international competitions, in particular the European University Championships.
In addition, the so-called ‘junior races’ provide a platform for students who have only taken up rowing as part of their studies.
Attractive supporting programme and new grandstand
A particular highlight this year is the inauguration of a new grandstand at the regatta course, which will give spectators an excellent view of the races. The Crefeld Rowing Club will be providing refreshments on site.
