Traveling museum on Krefeld's city history makes a stop at the university campus

A sea container will be located at the Krefeld Süd site from January 16 to 24 inclusive. The mobile exhibition is open to the public.

Until February, citizens can see for themselves that Krefeld's city history fits into a shipping container. From January 16 to 24, the unconventional traveling museum will be set up on the South Campus (parking spaces at Obergath 79) of The Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR).

The mobile exhibition has been on display at twelve locations in Krefeld's districts since August to mark the city's 650th anniversary. It started on Joseph-Beuys-Platz in front of the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Museum and the HSNR is now the final location. Visitors can obtain brief and concise information without being overwhelmed by detailed specialist knowledge.

Mobile elements with a touch screen and an audio station are available for exploration in the outdoor area or on the long side of the open sea container. Inside, visitors can "rotate" their own way through the city's development on a stele. The silent film "A journey through Krefeld 1910" from the city archive is shown on a monitor. Mirrors invite visitors to take selfies. There will also be exhibits featuring the likenesses of important people from the city's history.

The city's Culture faculty designed the exhibition on Krefeld's history in cooperation with Museum Burg Linn to mark the city's 650th anniversary. Historian Leonard Scholten was also involved in the project. Local history societies offer lectures or hands-on activities at individual stations.

The exhibition is free of charge and barrier-free. Anyone can visit. The regular opening hours of the traveling museum are: Tue, Wed and Fri 11am - 4.30pm, Thu 12pm - 6pm, Sat 10am - 2pm. School classes can visit the exhibition by appointment before the regular opening hours. To register, please contact stadtgeschichten(at)krefeld.de or 0151/59975106.
