The Future Work Lab (FWL) of the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences forms the interface between science and urban society. Centrally located in Krefeld city centre (Petersstr. 122, 47798 Krefeld), it offers an open meeting space for all citizens. The aim is to promote dialogue between associations, public institutions, regional companies, the university and civil society and to work together on sustainable urban development.
With the new event series "We are a city!", the FWL is focussing on the exchange and networking of local knowledge. Each year, the focus is on a topic that is examined from different perspectives together with a regional association.
Astronomy Day 2025: A look at the stars
On Saturday, 29 March 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m., the series will kick off with Astronomy Day 2025 at the FWL. On display will be astronomical instruments, relevant degree programmes at the university and a keynote lecture entitled "Astronomy is - just look up", which will introduce the fascination of the starry sky.
Other events throughout the year
In addition to the Astronomy Day, two further events are planned to explore the topic of astronomy in greater depth:
Astronomy and the environment
- Large-format photography exhibition: Starry skies over Krefeld
- Keynote speech and discussion: Light pollution and its effects
Astronomy in everyday life
- Exhibition: Light projections of astronomical objects
- Keynote speech: The sundial as an orientation system
With "We are a city!", the Future Work Lab creates a space for knowledge transfer and shared learning - interdisciplinary, practical and open to all.
