Course materials from the university library

Hochschule Niederrhein. Your way.

So-called ‘course packs’ are specific reading materials and handouts compiled by lecturers for particular courses.

  • Course packs are listed together in one place.
  • Printed titles and photocopied materials are grouped together in the library and clearly marked.
  • Printed materials cannot be borrowed during this period. They may only be used in the library or, where appropriate, scanned.
  • Electronic resources from the course collections are also accessible at any time from home.

On this page, you will find the course reserves for all three libraries, sorted by the university teacher / lecturer’s surname and the name of the course reserve.

Lecturers who wish to set up a course reserve collection can find further information on our intranet page.

Course Materials FAQ

What are course materials?

Lecturers compile a list of the most important books (print and e-books) and teaching materials (e.g. lecture notes) for their courses in a course reserve. The course reserves are available to you in a separate section of the library.

Can these items be borrowed?

The books, folders and photocopies cannot be borrowed (except for short-term loans until the next opening day) and are therefore accessible to all students at any time. You can use them to work in the library and scan individual pages or entire sections using the document scanner. In the catalogue, books in a semester collection are marked with the status ‘Reference’. Many semester collections contain e-books as well as print media. E-books can be read online at any time. In addition, some e-books can be downloaded either in full or by chapter. As with all other e-books, access to these e-books from home is restricted to HSNR students only.

How are the course materials organised?

In the library, course reserve collections are shelved separately from the other books, arranged numerically by faculties and lecturers. If you are unsure where the course reserve collection is located, please ask at the service desk. The books in a course collection are marked with a number on a yellow strip at the top of the spine. The first digit indicates the faculty, e.g. 07 for the Faculty of Textiles. The second digit is the course collection number.

Please speak to a member of library staff if you have any further questions.

How do you find SemApps in DigiBib?

Course reserves can be viewed on this website or found in DigiBib by entering the title of the relevant course reserve in the ‘Call number’ field under ‘Advanced Search’. This will give you a complete list of print copies and e-books for the relevant course reserve.
