Cleverly Built: How Simple Constructions Carry Loads

28.03.2026 10:00 - 12:00

Lecture (Wednesday, 25 March 2026): What do historical bridges, simple cranes and classic lever scales have in common? This module deals with the basic principles of statics and mechanics: Forces, lever arms and their interaction in load-bearing structures. Historical and modern examples are used to explain and categorise these relationships in an understandable way.

Internship (Saturday, 28 March 2026): In the practical part, various simple mechanical systems are set up and tested - including a Da Vinci bridge, pulley blocks and lever balances to investigate force and load ratios. The focus is on trying things out together and understanding how simple mechanical principles can be used to realise stable and functional solutions.
