From 11 to 13 September 2025, the SoilCarbon4Climate conference took place in Berlin, at which NIERS was represented by Florian Grebe. At the conference, Florian Grebe had the opportunity to present research results on carbon prices and their impact on crop portfolio selection, soil humus build-up and farm emissions. The research results are part of the graduate cluster AUFBRUCH at NIERS and The Hochschule Niederrhein and are the result of a collaboration between Florian Grebe (NIERS), Silke Hüttel (University of Göttingen), Julius Vielhauer (Klim GmbH) and Daniel Hermann (University of Bonn).
The SoilCarbon4Climate conference is a high-level conference with the aim of bringing together scientists, farmers, policy makers and other stakeholders to advance solutions for soil health, carbon sequestration and climate resilience. It is a joint event organised by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Home Affairs and the 4per1000 initiative.
In the AUFBRUCH project, NIERS is focussing on the transition to a sustainable bioeconomy in the Rhenish mining area as well as on general (regional) economic aspects and impacts of a bioeconomy. Further information can be found here.
