The R(h)einTex research project – Recycling through Innovation in the Textile Industry in the Lower Rhine region – hosted its fifth meeting for regional stakeholders on 16 July 2026.

The event took place at the Hochschule Niederrhein, with numerous participants attending in person or joining the discussion online.

This regular get-together focused on two key topics: extended producer responsibility (EPR) for textiles in Germany, and the current situation and future prospects of the regional textile industry.

Alexandra Landsberg (Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport, North Rhine-Westphalia) presented the EPR and highlighted the upcoming regulatory requirements from a policy perspective. Dr Olena Provolotska (from the R(h)einTex project team) presented the results of a recent company survey, providing insights into the current situation and future expectations of the textile industry in the Lower Rhine region.
In the two discussion rounds that followed, the focus was not only on the administrative hurdles faced in the practical application but also on the challenges of scaling up recycling technologies and accessing raw materials in the region.
