Applicants in Elite Sport

Reconciling an academic apprenticeship with a career in top-class sport is a particular challenge. The Hochschule Niederrhein therefore offers support options for dual careers in North Rhine-Westphalia.

These include

  • Individual Student Advice
  • Student Degree Programme Counselling based on sports planning

As part of the selection process for degree programmes with local admission restrictions, the HSNR has decided to give priority admission to squad athletes from the national sports associations of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (top associations) (i.e. Olympic squad, perspective squad, supplementary squad, team sports squad, junior squad 1, junior squad 2).

National & International Competitions

The Hochschule Niederrhein is a member of the German University Sports Association (adh) and is happy to register you or your team for national and international competitions. We will pay the registration fee and any travelling expenses for you.

German University Championship

DHM

The German University Championships (DHM) are the flagship of university sport at national level. Every year, the adh organises around 40 German University Championships in over 30 sports.

The special thing about a DHM is that amateur and amateur athletes compete together with cadre athletes. In addition, it is not just about the pure comparison of performance at a high level, but also about combining aspects of competitive sport with student interests in meeting, communicating and exchanging ideas.

The German University Championships are organised by adh member universities throughout Germany and allow students and staff to participate as individual starters or in teams.

German University Cup

DHP

Originating from the German University of Applied Sciences Championships and the adh Cup, the German University Cup (DHP) has been organised since 2011 specifically for all smaller universities with up to 10,000 students and for universities of applied sciences in the four major sports.

The German University Cup Basketball, Football, Handball and Volleyball is organised by the adh member universities as a nationwide event, usually on a weekend in the summer semester.

adh-Open

The adh-Open is a national competition for sports that are not part of the adh canon of sports and therefore cannot organise German University Championships. adh-Open events are offered if university competitions have already taken place at national level in the sport in question and it is clear from the participation that there is great interest among students in national competitions. Furthermore, the adh-Open serves as a reference event for sports that aspire to be included in the adh sports canon. Only when two adh-Open events have been organised by two different member universities in a sport in two consecutive years can an application be made to include this sport in the adh sport canon.

In some individual sports, however, the adh-Open has also established itself as a further level of competition below the German University Championships, where the focus is less on performance. The surfing event in the south of France, for example, is one of the classic adh-Open events. Fistball, floorball and flag football adh-Open events have also been held regularly in recent years.

It goes without saying that in addition to lots of sport, a varied supporting programme awaits the participants!

adh-Trophy

Fancy unconventional competitions in special sports? As many university sports facilities offer trendy and fun sports in their semester programme, the adh also offers suitable competition events.

The adh Trophy events are among the newest in the adh competition programme. Since the 2008 summer semester, students and staff from both large and smaller universities of applied sciences have been able to take part. The focus is always on having fun!
