Hochschule Niederrhein. Your way.

Visit of the student fraternity TV Borussia Magdeburg to Krefeld at the campus Krefeld

At the end of October, 16 members of the student fraternity TV Borussia Magdeburg to Krefeld met at the Hochschule Niederrhein in Krefeld.

The fraternity was founded in Magdeburg in 1906 and reactivated in Krefeld in 1958. On the occasion of the anniversary of the founding of the fraternity, the alumni met for a weekend together at their old educational institution.

Some of the former students were the first to study at the Hochschule Niederrhein, which was then the University of Applied Sciences Niederrhein. Some had even been taught at the previous schools.

They reported that compared to today's university, there were significant differences, for example that the classes were much smaller back then and the focus was primarily on Mechanical, Electrical and Process Engineering. Meanwhile, not only has the college campus grown, but more faculties have been added, and more students and employees are now part of HSNR.

The college's alumni coordinator, Ms. Kaminski welcomed the alumni for a tour. With the words of the chairman of the alumni association Mr. Gunter Berauer "We are glad that you show us all this", the tour through the premises of the university began. Some of the former students first quickly took the opportunity to take a ride on the popular paternoster. In the Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering, Ms. Angelika Grahl then welcomed the visitors and explained what has changed at the university in recent years. "Through Corona, more digitalization and home office took place and face-to-face teaching was greatly missed, however the university has weathered all difficulties and challenges well so far," was her conclusion.

Afterwards, the robotics lab in the basement of the F-building was visited. Prof. Hans-Jürgen Helwig from the Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering explained to the alumni what tasks and projects the students are working on nowadays, and how important a good basic education and practical relevance are for the students.

For the degree, the group visited the HSNR's racing team. This group of students builds its own racing car every year, which then participates in international competitions. In these, not only speed, but also technical specifications and a business plan are judged. The group of visitors showed great interest in the current model of the racing car as well as in the previous models and was impressed by the performance of the students. Just how great the interest was was evident from the many questions that were patiently answered by the students. After a guided tour of the racing team's workshop, the alumni of the technical fraternity TV Borussia Magdeburg zu Krefeld were given a send-off with the anniversary book, which was published to mark the university's 50th anniversary last year, and a group photo complete with racing car.
