Stories and memories

Hochschule Niederrhein. Your way.
Corinna Bernshaus

Corinna Bernshaus | HSNR 1984 - 1991

Ready to fly

Corinna Bernshaus' recurring memory that she associates with her studies in ceramic and object design at the Hochschule Niederrhein is from her exam days. She shared a beautiful, bright room on the third floor of Peterstraße with a fellow student, the sun was shining and they were listening to music: That's how the song "Stars" by Simply Red is forever linked to the Hochschule Niederrhein for her.

Typical for her study time was the coffee in the cafeteria with Mrs. Lingen, long nights and also long sleeping. And she emphasizes how happy and grateful she is that she was able to do these studies at this time. Because she had a freedom in her studies that no longer exists today. Even if this freedom was often a burden, since many students at that time did not know where their journey would take them. But Corinna Bernshaus also sees the opportunities and tasks that allowed her to grow and sometimes even surpass herself. People like Professor Sachsse, whose straightforwardness and attitude in the subject of photography remained in her memory, were certainly helpful. In addition, there were philosophical considerations and the social background of design theory - Bauhaus and many more... And also the workshops with the teaching staff. Today Corinna Bernsdorf works as an artist and lecturer. For example, as founder and director of "Raum D - Atelier for people with dementia", as a member of various art associations such as the "Malkasten", the "Verein Düsseldorfer Künsterlinnen e.V." or "Keywork e.V. - Soziale Plastik im Quartier". As a board member, she is active, among other things, in the Künsterlinnenverein Gedok A46 and was the deputy director of the independent art school Werksetzen. Since May 2021 she is also co-founder of "b-ehrenhof - space for art and culture" in Düsseldorf Flingern. Diverse activities and tasks in which she can put the knowledge and experience from her studies to good use. And so she then draws a positive conclusion about her time at the Hochschule Niederrhein: "Inspiring, great places, great companions and advisors!"
