Hochschule Niederrhein. Your way.

Tobias Münch | HSNR 2013-2019

Professors are only human

Tobias Münch, who studied at the Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering from 2013 to 2019, has particularly fond memories of the HSNR racing team.

Since 2011, there has been an interdisciplinary team of students at the Hochschule Niederrhein who design a single-seater racing car and enter it in competitions. The competition is then not only about who has constructed the fastest racing car, but also about the best designs. Participation is intended to supplement the studies with intensive experience of design and manufacturing as well as the economic effects in automotive engineering.

When asked what was "typical student" for Tobias Münch, he remembers above all that he was able to work and learn all day long on the premises of the HSNR racing team. The theory from his studies was immediately put into practice and even developed further. In the process, a great community developed in the racing team for which one toils, but also celebrates and enjoys spending time at the university. "You supported each other in everything, whether it was for the university itself or for the racing car" is how Tobias Münch describes this great time. And in the team, you grew with your tasks and the responsibility that you didn't think you had at the beginning. "This has always accompanied me throughout my working life. No task is too big" is how Tobias Münch sums up these experiences. In addition, there are the friendships that were formed back then and that still last today and are linked to fond memories. Like the drawing of lots by means of scissors and rock paper with the team boss at that time Cedric, to whom we send greetings at this point like all other team members! - about the order in the Formula Student race. And another insight was important - certainly also for the later professional life: Professors and superiors are also only human.

Today, Tobias Münch actually continues to work in the automotive field. As a test engineer, he has been with Pierburg Pump Technology GmbH since 2017. The company, which is part of Rheinmetall AG, offers a high level of systems expertise and a wide range of, for example, oil, vacuum and cooling systems for all engine and cooling applications. Incidentally, if he had the choice again, he would study the Mechanical Engineering degree programme adapted to today's requirements, preferably with a higher proportion of electrical engineering or computer science.
