About the online certificate course

In an era in which artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI technologies are transforming more and more business processes, it is essential for specialists and managers to have in-depth knowledge of data architectures and data engineering methods. Only in this way can data contribute as a valuable resource to decision-making, innovation and competitiveness.

This certificate course provides you with in-depth insights into the design of modern information architectures that are optimised for the integration of AI systems. You will specifically develop the technological foundations, organisational strategies and legal aspects for designing data architectures and efficiently implementing data engineering processes. This will enable you to prepare your company for the dynamic requirements of Big Data and Industry 4.0. This will create the basis for effectively integrating data-intensive applications and IoT technologies with AI or making them usable for AI systems.

Course objectives

On successful completion of the course, you will be able to

  • apply the essential data governance concepts in specific use cases
  • Adhere to data privacy and data compliance in big data projects and be familiar with the necessary legal requirements (e.g. GDPR).
  • explain and compare different architectures of data management systems.
  • explain the data models of various NoSQL and Big Data systems and apply them for data modelling.
  • explain the methods of data engineering for the preparation, transformation and integration of data and assess corresponding systems for implementation.
  • assess the quality of data for data-based applications and apply basic concepts of data quality management.
  • assess the advantages and disadvantages of distributed big data systems and justify their use.
  • design data transformations and data queries in big data systems.
  • design big data systems for specific requirements.
  • evaluate their own or existing Big Data systems.
Advantages
  • Increased knowledge and expertise through the communication of contemporary data architectures and data management methods from research and practice.
  • Independent and critical discussion and evaluation of current data management technologies.
  • Professional applicability of the content taught through practical exercises and project work.
Target group

The certificate course is aimed at specialists and managers from all sectors in the fields of information management, organisation and process management who...

  • are responsible for the strategic planning of information architectures in an organisation.
  • define information systems and processes in organisations and coordinate their use.
  • plan and design architectures and systems for big data and data science applications.

In the role of a "data architect" in the company, they are responsible for the technical architecture and selection of data management systems as well as for the organisational design of information processes.

Form of teaching and learning

The interactive seminar-style course offers the opportunity to respond to individual questions and problems posed by participants. Practical exercises on various data management systems based on case studies as well as support via an online learning platform support learning success. The content learnt will be practically applied and consolidated as part of a project.
