In Krefeld and Mönchengladbach, either an Integration Council (MG) or an Integration Committee (KR) is elected. These boards and committees represent the interests of people with an international family history and promote diversity and co-determination in city life.
Who can vote?
- In both cities, anyone with a personal or family history of migration is eligible to vote - in other words, either you or at least one of your parents comes from another country.
- You must be at least 16 years old and have lived in Germany for at least one year.
The following also applies: your main place of residence must be registered in Krefeld or Mönchengladbach for at least 16 days before the election.
How does the election work?
- Election day: Sunday, 14 September 2025
- Time: 8:00 to 18:00 in your own polling station, often near your home.
- Every eligible voter receives a polling card by post in advance with information about the time and place.
- Anyone who is unable to vote on election day can easily apply for postal voting in advance - for example online, by QR code on the polling card, by email or in person at the postal voting office.
- If postal voting is no longer possible but you are unable to vote on election day, you can often vote at your local polling station .
