On this year's nationwide Girls' and Boys' Day, the Hochschule Niederrhein opened its doors to more than 160 pupils.

At the various locations in Krefeld and Mönchengladbach, the young people gained insights into the departments of Design, Engineering and Computer Science, Oecotrophology, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Healthcare and the Library.

The pupils from secondary schools, comprehensive schools and grammar schools

• compared ready-made and freshly cooked dishes
• were active in the midwives' skills lab
• built an LED lamp
• assembled a motor
• made cosmetic products and jewellery
• dealt with cyber security
• carried out sensor tests and various experiments
• rendered 3D objects
• cooked
• milled a 3D model of their face in wood
• played an escape room game
• determined the protein content of food

The participants came not only from the immediate vicinity, but also from Aachen, Rheinbach and Düsseldorf, "because there weren't as many exciting things to do locally".

We are delighted that we were able to offer these young people an interesting insight into our degree programmes and professions.
