Martin Speer: Men, power & thought patterns - When the last woman leaves the room

"This gender stuff is girl stuff." "We really do have more important problems than gender equality." "I'm not sexist myself" Do statements like this sound familiar?

In their book "When the last woman leaves the room" (Ullstein), the two authors Vincent-Immanuel Herr and Martin Speer provide an insight into the thoughts of men on the subject of gender equality. They show how deeply ingrained sexist patterns of thought and behaviour are, how we can question them and invite men to become allies for gender equality. This is not about guilt, but about an opportunity for joint progress and real change.

If you are interested in checking your own thought patterns, seeing through typical argumentation traps and seeing how you can take an active role for more gender equality, then this reading by Martin Speer is just right for you.

Martin Speer is a UN Women HeForShe Ambassador and was appointed to the Gender Equality Advisory Council of the G7 countries (GEAC) in 2022.
