Review Engineering Days 2026 - Experience technology, shape the future

On 23 and 24 January 2026, the three technical faculties of Hochschule Niederrhein - Chemistry, Engineering and Computer Science and Industrial Engineering - opened their doors for this year's Engineering Days at the Krefeld South Campus.

For two days, visitors were able to experience research up close, visit laboratories and talk to lecturers, students and engineers about current projects and study opportunities.

A special highlight was the in-house exhibition, where numerous student project assignments were on display. There were also exciting campus and laboratory tours, practical lectures and interactive hands-on activities - including the popular enamelling in the surface technology laboratory under the direction of Prof Dr Markus Lake and his team. Here, visitors were able to create their own small pieces of jewellery and gain fascinating insights into materials science - organised as a contribution by the Equal Opportunities Commission.

This year, our own information stand focussed on STEM topics. Together with interested students, we discussed questions such as:
- What still stops young people from studying a STEM subject?
- What factors motivate them in particular?
- And how can we break down existing prejudices against STEM - even beyond gender issues?

We provided information on a wide range of orientation programmes for prospective students - including the newly launched NRW-Technikum and the orientation semesterwhich starts again in April 2026.

There were also offers for existing students: We presented the mentoring programmes "Competentia" and "Dein Kompass für den beruflichen Einstieg", which support female students in their transition from studies to the professional world.
