From 12 to 16 December 2026, the WDR 2 Christmas Miracle will be stopping off at Europlatz in Mönchengladbach. We, the members of the Hochschule Niederrhein, are taking part: from now on, students, lecturers, researchers and employees are collecting donations to combat global hunger under the slogan‘Knowledge creates miracles’.
The WDR 2 Christmas Miracle is a multi-day fundraising campaign organised by WDR in collaboration with ‘Aktion Deutschland Hilft’. Live broadcasts will take place round the clock from a glass-walled studio – on the radio, on television and via livestream.
Our campaign is an initiative organised by members of the university community, not by the university as an institution. All donations go directly to the donation account held by ‘Aktion Deutschland Hilft’.

The university in brief
With around 12,948 students (as of winter term 24/25), The Hochschule Niederrhein is one of the largest and best-performing universities of applied sciences in Germany. At the three locations on the Krefeld South Campus, Krefeld West Campus and Mönchengladbach Campus, students are spread across 78 Bachelor's and 34 Master's degree programmes in nine faculties. 909 employees - including 244 professors - ensure close supervision and practical orientation and applied teaching education.
Research plays a special role at The Hochschule Niederrhein as a university of applied sciences: it is practical and application-orientated. The researchers always have the direct benefit of their results in mind. The university's faculties and research facilities are orientated towards the needs of the economy and companies in the region.
Lifelong learning - this is made possible by the courses offered by the Centre for Continuing Education at The Hochschule Niederrhein. Professionals can develop their potential, advance their careers and secure their jobs with practical and application-oriented certificate courses, continuing education and postgraduate degree programmes. They benefit from the knowledge and expertise of the university.
