Theory & practice

The Cultural Education and Cultural Management degree programme is characterised by a close link between theory and practice. The Master's degree programme enables you to take on conceptual, planning and mediating tasks in public, non-profit or private institutions as well as in companies.

With a view to the specific requirements of cultural organisations, the studies will enable you to take on central tasks in the field of marketing and mediation in the context of national and international discourses. Within the framework of organisational and management activities, you will open up scope for action for culture and secure its factual and financial framework conditions. Basic legal knowledge and application skills round off the professional qualification profile of the Master's programme.

Students gain an advanced course in cultural education as a sub-discipline of educational science, familiarise themselves with philosophical, political and cultural science theories and learn about scientific approaches to cultural research as well as educational and cultural policy concepts.

Projects - our approaches for professional practice

Our project assignments take into account both socially relevant issues and the specific requirements of the labour market for future cultural educators and cultural managers. Under practically oriented studies, you will acquire skills in conceptual, organisational and public relations work, curating and cultural research. Our theory-practice combination includes the following project types:

Researching:
You will gain a basic insight into common methods of empirical social research and learn how to interpret statistical findings competently.

Analysing:
You will deepen your knowledge of target group research, taking into account social, cultural and mediating contexts. You will also acquire the necessary historical and political knowledge to be able to categorise the structures of a post-migrant society.

Implementing:
By independently planning and implementing a cultural project, you will gain valuable skills to position yourself successfully on the labour market.

Curating:
The task of curating is also becoming increasingly important in view of digitalisation. You will learn to critically question the structures and dynamics of contemporary society as well as observations of globalisation processes

Excursions and discourses
