Self-designed living environments
The pedagogical skills taught in the studies aim to develop the creative powers and cultural potential of people individually and in groups. In this way, self-determined aesthetic designs for a meaningful life are to be discovered and sponsored. Our educational concept is particularly orientated towards the paradigm of empowerment, which focuses on the development of people's own strengths and resources in their living environments.

From the winter semester 2024/25, the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences and the Faculty of Health Care will jointly offer the new Bachelor's degree programme in Applied Psychology.
Practice- and future-oriented with excellent prospects - this is how the new degree programme at The Hochschule Niederrhein presents itself. It combines the high scientific and research orientation of the subject of psychology with a strong focus on application, so that the Bachelor's degree qualifies students directly for practical application on the one hand and provides a good foundation course for a more advanced Master's programme on the other.

Unique combination
The Master's degree programme "Cultural Education and Cultural Management" is unique in its kind in the Federal Republic of Germany. Like no other, it combines the two pillars of education and management in the field of culture at a high academic level.
Cultural education
// Shaping the living environment and participation in culture
Cultural education is a cross-sectional discipline from educational science, cultural and media studies and the pedagogy of visual and performing arts. Based on aesthetic experiences with the means of the arts, it supports its addressees both in shaping their living environment and in participating in cultural and social processes.
Cultural education is based on an expanded concept of culture that includes everyday cultures and the fine arts in equal measure and can be used for innovative cultural mediation work in educational and cultural institutions as well as in public spaces.
Cultural management
// Organisational and management activities
Cultural management opens up scope for action for culture and secures its factual and financial framework conditions - be it in the planning, organisation and financing of events or in the context of organisational and management activities in municipalities, supra-regional institutions and private cultural institutions.
// Legal foundations
Basic legal knowledge and application skills are highly relevant for project implementation and event organisation and especially for the management of a cultural institution. Constitutional framework conditions, foundation courses in contract and copyright law as well as event law, labour and company law are taught and their application in practical application is practised.

Commencement of studies
The MA Cultural Education and Cultural Management programme generally begins with two compulsory introductory weeks, during which important study-related content is taught right at the commencement of studies. Experience has shown that the Master's year groups are very heterogeneous, i.e. the students usually come from a wide variety of cultural, media and/or educational backgrounds. A multi-faceted introductory programme has proven its worth for a good start to the Master's. Please plan your attendance at the university according to the following overview. The regular, weekly courses take place from Mondays to Wednesdays and begin after the two introductory weeks. The course catalogue is usually available online from July.

Qualification in leadership, management
The Master's degree programme in Social Management qualifies students for competent management in social work and Health Care. Basic legal and business knowledge as well as knowledge of organisational design and personnel management are combined with socio-political aspects and the specialist know-how required in social work. By bringing together and integrating skills and knowledge from different disciplines, students will acquire the skills required to manage and lead social work organisations that meet current requirements to the highest degree.
