urbanorama° - urban reveries, a hands-on day for children with workshop, exhibition and discussion

Happiness is on the street and children know best where to find it. We invite children from 10-13 years to discover favorite places in their city and develop them for their city.

Time and place | Wednesday, June 28, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Roof terrace at Südbahnhof, Saumstraße 9, 47798 Krefeld, Germany

Especially in inner cities, public open spaces are necessary for children to unfold and develop, because housing often offers little space and private green spaces are usually not available.

For one day, we will focus entirely on the perspective of children. For the morning, we invite 9 - 13 year olds in a children's workshop to discover their city and dream its development further. After a brief input on poetic city moments, the children will go out and document what catches their attention. Based on this, they create models of their individual 'urban reveries'. In the afternoon, design students prepare these for an exhibition.

The exhibition will be shown in the early evening from 6 pm. Against this backdrop, we will discuss with experts how the city could or should be developed for children and young people. How can we sensitively participate for this? Which spaces and offers are of particular importance for children and young people?

The workshop will be led by:

  • Anke M. Leitzgen - expert in building cultural education for children and youth.
  • Nicolas Beucker - Prof. for public & social design at The Hochschule Niederrhein
  • Katrin Blewaska, Maike Richter - design students at the Hochschule Niederrhein

Participation is free of charge, but limited to 20 children. Please register by 25.06. A midday snack will be provided free of charge.
