Professor of midwifery science

Prof.in Therese Werner-Bierwisch is a midwife and graduate professional educator. In November 2022, she was appointed Professor of Midwifery Science at the Faculty of Health Care at the Hochschule Niederrhein in Krefeld. From 2020 to 2021, she worked at the Fliedner University of Applied sciences in Düsseldorf as head of the Degree programme in Midwifery Science dual (B. Sc.) and was in charge of its conception and implementation. From 2015 to 2019, she worked as a research assistant at the HS Osnabrück as part of the research college "FamiLe". Prior to that, she worked as a graduate assistant at Hannover Medical School from 2014 to 2015 as part of the EU-funded OptiBIRTH randomized trial. From 2005 to 2009, she completed a career-integrated degree programme in Nursing Education at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences of North Rhine-Westphalia in Cologne, Germany, with specialisations in Nursing Education, Nursing Science, Nursing Didactics and Educational Science. Since 2016, she has been doing her doctorate on the topic of the experience of safety in the context of birth as part of the cooperation college at Witten/Herdecke University. Prof.in Therese Werner-Bierwisch has many years of experience both in the apprenticeship of midwives and in practical work as a midwife. She is author of national and international publications and speaker at conferences.
