Pupils from Krefeld get a taste of student life at the Hochschule Niederrhein at the SWK E² - Institute of Energy Technology and Energy Management

As part of the career exploration, pupils of the 8th grade from the Fabritianum Gymnasium, three days of student air at the Hochschule Niederrhein and got a lot of interesting impressions from different faculties:

During the pupils' tour of the university, a visit to the garage of the university's own HSNR racing team was on the agenda in addition to a tour of the faculties. Here, the finished cars of the last years and the prototype for the next racing season could be examined and a student of the racing team diligently answered questions about the cars and about driven races.

Visit to the Robotics Lab (Faculty of Industrial Engineering): With research assistant Sumona Sen, pupils learned the first steps to programming a collaborative robot.

Visit to the SWK E² - Institute of Energy Technology and Energy Management (Faculty of Industrial Engineering): Institute director Prof. Jörg Meyer presented various test benches from the field of energy in the technical center. The pupils learned how refrigerators, heaters and air conditioners work.

Visit to the Maker Space (faculty of mechanical engineering): Here, lasers and 3D printing were the central topic. The pupils were able to design their own images.

In Prof. Dominic Deutges' Manufacturing Technology lab (Faculty of Industrial Engineering), pupils learned about measurements using hand-held measuring equipment, CNC coordinate measuring machine and optical 3D surface profiler, and took a tour of the machine tools.

Visit to the process engineering laboratory (faculty of process engineering): Here, the focus was also on energy. First, the pupils produced green hydrogen from solar energy and then looked at the process of a refrigeration machine using the example of a slush machine.

At the degree, there was a delicious slush drink and a small farewell gift for everyone.
