Where machines once roared, silk now shimmers. On 9 October 2025, the historic sewage treatment plant in Krefeld-Uerdingen (Rundweg 20-22) will be transformed into a catwalk. Under the motto "Silk meets steel", students and graduates from the Faculty of Textile and Clothing Technology at The Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) and the clothing technology assistants from the Vera Beckers vocational college will present their latest collections.
This year, the fashion students from the Vera Beckers vocational college have explored contrasts: industry meets fine silk, tradition meets modernity, jeans meets lace, patchwork is rethought.
The second half of the evening will focus on the theses of Bachelor's and Master's students from the Faculties of Textile and Clothing Technology. Their works show how closely artistic vision and scientific reflection are interwoven in fashion. The collections deal with central themes of our time: sustainability, emotion, identity and the transformation of nature.
In "TIDES", Antonia Dannenberg addresses the impact of climate change on the oceans, Agnes Korn celebrates the beauty of imperfection in "DISTORTION", and Michèle Lemper combines trade with circular design strategies in "(dis)solve me".
In "Love and all its faces", Pascal Gracian Dyrna translates the emotional facets of love into textile forms of expression, while Lisa Moritz reflects on the dialogue between generations in fashion in "I'll be your mirror".
Cassandra Knodel deconstructs cultural identities and traditions in "Culture Deconstruction", and Hanna Speck visualises the glacier as a symbol of change and movement in "GLACIER".
The show is organised by CPACE - Collective Place for Arts, Creation and Education, a collective of HSNR students who run a studio on the Mönchengladbach campus. CPACE is an open space for creative collaboration and interdisciplinary exchange, supported by the City of Mönchengladbach's cultural funding programme.
The fashion show starts at 7 pm (admission from 6 pm). Admission costs 7 euros. Tickets are available at the box office or online at https://kalender.klaerwerk-krefeld.org/veranstaltung/modenschau-seide-trifft-stahl/.
During the interval, Krefeld artist and musician Serge Bizyuk will provide the evening's musical accent with his own compositions. The income from the fashion show will benefit the association for the preservation of the sewage treatment plant.
